Humanist Minister's Eulogy from Tim's funeral - 28th May 2004

In love we shall keep the memory of Tim, and now we have each other. This is all we have, but I suggest it is all we need. We are still subject to natural law and chance, but our humanity gives us the power to stand over and against them. We have a measure of understanding and so we gain some control. We sympathise and in doing so we find for ourselves much, much love. It's by our living and loving, that's how we create the values of the world we live in.

It is to be hoped that you have all derived some comfort from gathering with us here this afternoon. I am sure the family will draw much strength and comfort from your being able to come and share this simple ceremony with them. They have asked me to invite you all to the Newton in Sprotborough Road for some light refreshments immediately following this service.

Now let us go on our way to continue our own experiences in this mysterious but still wonderful world. I'll just invite Mrs Jacobs up for a moment.

Tim's mum, dad and brother lay a rose on the coffin.

Please sit just for a few moments more while we listen to some music which will conclude the service.
